Apple Watch Series 9 With S9 Chip, New Double Tap Gesture

Apple has officially announced its latest wearable – the Watch Series 9, at is Wonderlust event in its Cupertino headquarters. The watch is powered by the new Apple S9 chip, comes pre-loaded with watchOS 10 and a new double tap gesture to join the Digital Crown and Taptic Engine.

The watch is available in 41mm and 45mm sizes; and the following case colour choices: Midnight, Pink, (PRODUCT)RED, Silver and Starlight. The Stainless Steel option is available in Gold, Graphite and Silver cases. The new new Sport Loop band is entirely carbon neutral. There are other bands options in collaboration with Nike and Hermes.

The new custom S9 SiP is touted to be up to 60% faster and processes machine learning tasks twice faster than the previous generation (Apple Watch Series 8). The 4-core Neural engine in the chip powers the secure on-device Siri processing, which provides users with the option of accessing and logging their health records privately and securely.

One of the highlight of the Apple Watch Series 9 is the new double tap gesture control. It allows users control the watch by tapping the Index finger and thumb on one hand, without touching the display. The gesture can control common actions such as answering calls, scrolling through widgets, snoozing the alarm, and taking a photo with a Camera remote on the Apple Watch.

Other features include all-day 18-hour battery life, precision finding with the second-generation ultra wideband chip, up to 2000 nits screen brightness and Edge-to-Edge Always-On display. Customers in Australia, New Zealand and over 40 other countries can order the new Apple Watch today and sales is expected to commence next Friday – September 22.
