Apple Refreshes The MacBook Air with M3 Chip

Apple has commenced sales of a refreshed version of the MacBook Air. The new model, available in both 13-inch and 15-inch screen sizes, is powered by the Apple M3 (3nm) chip, which promises a faster and power efficient performance.

In terms of processor performance, the MacBook Air with M3 is up to 60% faster than the version with M1 chip and up to 13x faster than the fastest Intel-based MacBook Air. It also supports hardware-accelerated mesh shading and ray tracing, latest media engine with support for AV1 decode and 16-core Neural Engine to boost on-device machine learning.

Asides the processor upgrade, there are no drastic changes from their respective predecessors. They retain the familiar light and thin aluminium body build, Liquid Retina display with up to 500 nits of brightness and four colourway choices – Midnight, Silver, Space Grey, and Starlight colours. Either model lasts up to 18 hours of battery life; there is also support for up to 2x external display and Wi-Fi is 2x faster than the previous generation (Wi-Fi 6E).

The rest of the specs include MagSafe charging, 2x Thunderbolt ports, 3.5mm headphone jack, 1080p FaceTime HD camera, three-mic array, and Spatial Audio support with Dolby Atmos. Pricing for the 13-inch MacBook Air with M3 starts at A$1,799 (A$1,649 for education) and the 15?inch MacBook Air with M3 starts at A$2,199 (A$1,999 for education).
