Official: iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max with A17 Pro, New Action Button

Apple’s new pro model smartphones – the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max were made official alongside their non-pro siblings. Both models share majority of the same features including the premium Titanium build (Black, Blue, Natural and White), new contoured edge, and new USB-C port (USB 3), however, their respective screen sizes and battery capacity set them apart.

The iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max have the same Super Retina XDR display with Always-On, ProMotion and Dynamic Island. They are powered by the new Apple A17 Pro 3nm processor. The chip has the computing power to handle intense operation including gaming titles such as Assassin’s Creed Mirage and Resident Evil 4.

It is fitted with up to 19 billion transistors in a 6-core CPU configuration and a new 6-core pro-class GPU. It has a dedicated AV1 decoder, USB controller and hardware-accelerated ray tracing. Photography is handled by a powerful triple-camera setup which can match the performance of seven (7) camera lenses. It is fitted with a 48MP main camera (24mm, 28mm, or 35mm focal length) which supports 48MP ProRAW and 48MP HEIF images.

The main camera is complemented by two 12MP cameras – one with 3x Telephoto and the other with 12MP 5x Optical Zoom + 120mm focal length. The ability to capture Spatial Videos for Apple Vision Pro will be available early next year. Night mode, Smart HDR, and Portrait mode have also gotten better. In terms of connectivity, there is support for Wi-Fi 6E, second-generation Ultra Wideband chip (Precision Finding), USB-C (USB 3 Speeds) and Thread support.

The ring/mute toggle has been upgraded into a customizable, multipurpose ‘Action’ button. Along with wired charging (USB-C), there is also support for wireless charging (MagSafe, future Qi2). Both come with Crash Detection and Emergency SOS via satellite as well as eSIM support. Pricing starts at A$ 1849 for the base model of the iPhone 15 Pro and A$ 2,199 for the base model of the iPhone 15 Pro Max. Sales commence on Friday, September 22.
