Mac News Round Up: M3-Powered Macs, Foldable Macs, More

There is never a dull week in the news for the Apple ecosystem. The Cupertino-based company kept the rumour mill active up to the lead-up and after the announcement of its spatial computer – the Apple Vision Pro. The company’s focus is said to have shifted its focus to the next generation of iPhones – iPhone 15 and 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max – which are due in September.

Shortly after that, the company is expected to roll-out new Mac products and new M-series processor – the Apple M3. The company also became the first publicly traded company to close trading at $3 trillion evaluation. All these and more make up the MAC new round up for this week.

New Macs With Apple M3 Chip

Apple could be announcing new M3-powered Macs before the year runs out. Popular Apple analyst, Mark Gurman suggests the company will be introducing its next generation of Apple Chip in October and early product beneficiaries could be the 13-inch MacBook Air, 13-inch MacBook Pro and next iMac. New iPads with the Apple M3 chip will not be making an appearance until next year (2024), however, there might be some M2-powered iPads making an appearance.

Siri Gets Bilingual Support

In the most recent public beta version of iOS 17 (iPadOS 17 and macOS Sonoma), users are now able to ask Siri in more than one language at a time. The feature will be starting with Select Indic languages such as Telugu, Punjabi, Kannada, and Marathi. Services from Google (Assistant) and Amazon (Alexa) gained multilingual support in 2018 and 2019 respectively.

Additional Colour Options for iPhone 15 Line-Up

Apple is expected to introduce new colourways when it announces the next generation of iPhones in September. Different sources have suggested a new Dark Red (Crimson) and Deep Purple colour for the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro line and Green for the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus. The new options will join the regulars such as Silver, Space Grey and Gold.

  • In other news, Apple has crossed the $3 trillion evaluation on the New York Stock Exchange. The company became the first publicly traded company to close a trading day at $3 trillion value. This milestone comes on the heels of the launch of the Apple Vision Pro.
  • Looks like the masses will get a foldable MacBook before a foldable iPhone. A report from SiaSat suggests the Cupertino giant is in talks with Samsung to use its foldable display on a MacBook. The latter is said to have invested 4.1 trillion won ($3.1 billion) with the intention to mass-produce large-screen foldable OLED panels in 2025 and 2026.
  • TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance has launched a subscription-based music streaming service to take on Apple Music, Spotify and Tidal. TikTok Music will build on the company’s streaming service, Resso – in countries like Brazil and Indonesia.
