Alongside the Apple Watch Series 9, the company also introduced the second generation of its most rugged watch – the Apple Watch Ultra 2. It is backed by the new S9 SiP processor, comes pre-loaded with watchOS 10 OS upgrade, and offers the new double tap hand gesture.

The Apple Watch Ultra 2 (up to 3000 nits has the brightest display ever designed by the company. The display is 50-percent brighter than the first Watch Ultra and suitable for reading under harsh sunlight as well as in dark conditions. There is a new Modular Ultra watch face that takes advantage of the large 49mm display to present real-time data.

Other features to expect include on-device Siri processing for accessing and logging health data securely and privately; precision finding for iPhone 15 series via the Apple Watch, and same battery life as the first generation (36hrs on regular use and 72hrs in low power mode). When compared to the first generation Watch Ultra, most of the changes mentioned are only incremental.

The Watch Ultra 2 becomes carbon neutral when it is paired with the new Alpine Loop or Trail Loop. It is priced starting at US$ (A$ 1,399) and has opened for pre-orders today, with availability scheduled for September 22.
