Journal App

During the launch of the iOS 17, Apple announced it was working on a Journal App, which would help iPhone users document events, notable times and special moments of their lives. The wellness focused app allows text, videos, images, audio recordings, locations and more to be documented. There are also personalised suggestions (powered by on-device machine learning) and prompts based around reflections, gratitude, purpose and more.

Entries to the Journal app are encrypted when the iPhone is locked, and users can also add secondary authentication (Face ID or Touch ID).

Spatial Video Capture

With iOS 17.2, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max users can now record Spatial Videos (enabled in Settings) and relieve the memories in the Apple Vision Pro. The advanced camera system on these iPhones let users record in 3D. Spatial Videos are captures in 1080p @30fps and Standard Dynamic Range (SDR).

To capture a spatial video, open the camera app and switch to video mode. Rotate the iPhone to landscape orientation, tap the spatial video icon and tap record.

Users can find all recorded spatial videos in the new Spatial album in the Photos app and they can be shared and viewed like regular, 2D videos on the device. On Apple Vision Pro, spatial videos can be played in a window or expanded into an immersive view. Users will also be able to capture spatial videos on Apple’s first spatial computer or AR/VR headset.
