Apple GPT: Apple Working On Its Version Of ChatGPT

Unlike the other big tech companies – Google (Bard), Meta (Llama), and Microsoft (Bing AI and CoPilot), Apple has been discreet about its plan to expand extensively into Artificial Intelligence (AI). Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman – one of the high-profile sources of Apple-related news – reports that the company is secretly working on its version of OpenAI’s popular ChatGPT.

The Cupertino-based company only recently ventured into the mixed reality space with its first headset spatial computer – Apple Vision Pro, which hopes to blend both the real and digital world.

The interactive AI chatbot – currently speculated to be Apple GPT – is based on Google’s JAX machine learning framework and known internally as Ajax. Apple is reported to have multiple teams working on the project; and several employees have been granted access in order to provide feedback. Craig Federighi (Apple’s SVP of Software Engineering) and John Giannandrea (Apple’s SVP Machine Learning and AI Strategy) are said to be the overseers of the project.

One of the teams is expected to oversee potential issues surrounding user privacy. Siri stands to benefit the most from the integration of Apple GPT, and different Apple software – iOS, iPadOS, macOS, and watchOS – could have it directly integrated. It is still unclear how Apple intends to execute its new AI chatbot project, however, Bloomberg expects the company to make some AI-related announcements in 2024.

PS: Generative Pretrained Transformer (GPT) is an AI language model which can be used to generate human-like content and conversations.
