Battery Percentage indicator was removed from the Status Bar in iPhone X and later devices to make way for the wider notch housing Face ID. This feature however remains on iPhone models without Face ID such as the iPhone 8 and older devices. Apple has brought back this feature in iOS 16 by having the iPhone’s battery level written into the icon on the status bar.

To access the feature, simply upgrade to the latest version of the beta (currently iOS 16 Beta 5). Make your way to the Battery menu in Settings and toggle on the Battery Percentage option. According to MacRumours, the feature is currently available on iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 models apart from the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 mini models. It can also be found on the iPhone X and XS except from the iPhone XR and iPhone 11.

Other notable features in the latest beta include a new sound each for Find My and when pinging the iPhone for an Apple Watch, and mini live visualizer in the music player. Apple is expected to release iOS 16 sometime in the Fall, most likely around the same time as the upcoming iPhone 14.
