The AirTag is one of the select few Apple products which comes with a self-replaceable battery. It uses a standard CR2032 Coin battery, which Apple says is expected to last more than a year of standard usage (i.e. everyday use of four play sound events and one Precision Finding event per day). Since the device does not require charging, the battery will need to be replaced once it is flat.

How To Replace The AirTag’s CR2032 Coin Battery

  • Once the battery is running low, the connected iPhone alerts the user about the state of the battery.
  • Proceed to taking off the back metal cover by rotating it until it comes loose.
  • Pop out the old battery and replace the new one with the + sign facing upward.
  • You should know that no special tool is needed to replace the battery.
  • Don’t forget to put the cover back on.

The CR2032 is one of the more common coin batteries around and can be found powering small portable devices including car keys, glucose monitors, motherboard (CMOS battery) and digital watches. It can be bought online and from most department stores or supermarkets around. In Australia, brands such as Duracell, Energizer, Everready, and NRG can be bought from Aldi, Bunnings, Coles, Kmart, Officeworks, and Woolsworth.
