According to Apple, this service creates a copy of the photo and videos associated with an Apple ID and moves them to the intending destination (currently only Google Photos). The transfer and verification process takes between 3 to 7 days and there must be sufficient storage (at least 30GB) on Google photos for the process to go ahead. If the use runs out of space, not all the items selected would be transferred.

Other conditions include having two-factor authentication enabled and a Google account to use Google Photos. To request and transfer a copy of your data from iCloud Photos To Google Photos, simply follow the steps listed below:

  • Visit Privacy.Apple.Com and sign in with Apple ID to land on the ‘Manage Your Data’.
  • Navigate-to and select the “Transfer a Copy of your Data” option. Then follow the prompts to complete the request.
  • Once that is done, the user will be prompted to sign into Google accounts to commence the transfer. The user will get two emails after this, one at the beginning of the transfer and the other when the transfer is completed.

NB: It is important to know that Live Photos, Smart Albums, some RAW files and other formats are not supported.
