Preceded by the new services – Apple Card Family and Podcasts Subscriptions, and the long-awaited AirTag accessory, Apple announced the next-gen Apple TV 4K with Apple-designed A12 Bionic chip and an all-new Siri Remote. Using the same processor as the iPhone XS, XS Max and XR as well as the 2020 iPad brings significant increase in audio processing, graphics performance, and video decoding.

Starting at US$ 179 (32GB) and US$ 199 (64GB), the next-gen Apple TV 4K now supports high frame rate HDR (High Dynamic Range) and Dolby Vision video at 60 fps for smoother video play and videos shot on the iPhone 12 Pro can be displayed in full 60-fps Dolby Vision. The streaming box now works with the advanced sensors on the iPhone to calibrate the colour balance, thus improving the TV’s picture quality.

The all-new Siri remote has a one-piece aluminium design and redesigned with five ways intuitive navigation controls and touch-enabled for swift directional swipes. It also has a power button (which controls the TV’s power), mute button and the side-placed Siri button can be used to activate the assistant to search for shows or movies, control smart home accessories, and more.

The next-gen Apple TV 4K runs tvOS and deeply integrates with Apple devices and services including Apple TV, Apple Music, Apple Fitness+, AirPlay, Apple Arcase, and Homehub to control HomeKit accessories. These services can be assessed together using the Apple One subscription plan. The Apple TV HD with the new Siri Remote now costs $149 while the remote is available standalone for US$ 59 (compatible with the existing Apple TV 4K and Apple TV HD).
