iOS 16.1

One of the highlights of iOS 16.1 update is iCloud Shared Photo Library and Live Activities in the Lock Screen and the Dynamic Island on iPhone 14 Pro models only. The former supports sharing photos with friends and family (up to five users) to add, edit and remove photos from iCloud while the latter allows third-party apps to show real-time activities such as the livescore of games in the lockscreen or the dynamic island of iPhone 14 Pro models.

The update now allows iPhone users subscribe for Apple Fitness+ directly without the Apple Watch in 21 countries including Australia and New Zealand. Others include support for Key sharing in Wallet via messaging apps, Clean Energy Charging, Matter (smart home connectivity), and more.

iPadOS 16

Due to unresolved issues surrounding the Stage Manager feature, Apple delayed the release of iPadOS 16 until the arrival of two new iPads – the 10th-Gen iPad and iPad Pro with M2 Chip. Stage Manager is now available on compatible iPads, delivering the much advertised multitasking feature similar to Windows. Users can switch back and forth between multiple different-sized stages. Support for external monitors will arrive later on M1- and M2-powered iPad Pro models.

Alongside Stage Manager, the Weather app also comes to the iPad for the first time. There is also iCloud Shared Photo Library support, display scaling and desktop-class apps with customisable toolbar. Other features already arrived in iOS 16 include iMessage upgrade (undo send, mark as send and editing), new home app, mail app updates, and more.
