Facebook Changes Company Name To Meta

Facebook’s founder and CEO, Mark Zuckerberg has announced that Meta is the new parent company for Facebook – the social media, and its subsidiaries. The rebrand is the company’s attempt to reposition itself a social technology company and redirect its focus on developing the metaverse. Google underwent similar rebrand when Alphabet became its parent company in 2015.

Meta builds technologies that help people connect, find communities, and grow businesses. When Facebook launched in 2004, it changed the way people connect. Apps like Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp further empowered billions around the world. Now, Meta is moving beyond 2D screens toward immersive experiences like augmented and virtual reality to help build the next evolution in social technology.

The company’s social media products and services including Facebook – the social media, Messenger, WhatsApp, Instagram, Oculus and more will now fall under the new parent company. The company will maintain its corporate structure and continue to use and share data the same way, however, it stocks will start trading under the ticker ‘MVRS’ on December 1.
