Canon Releases AI-Powered Photo Culling App For iOS

Canon U.S.A., inc has unveiled its AI-powered Photo Culling app for iOS to help users cherry-pick the best photos from a shoot and discard the not-so good ones. The subscription-based app is powered by the company’s Computer Vision AI engine – PHIL (Photography Intelligence Learning), which already powers the Photo Culling plug-in for Adobe Lightroom Classic.

The Canon Photo Culling app analyses images using four standards: sharpness, noise, emotions, and closed eyes. The best snaps are chosen after they have crossed the benchmark scores set for all four standards (Whole Culling). With the other culling option (Similar Culling), the app arrives at the first- and second-best photos using the scores achieved by a group of similar photos. Once the best snaps are selected, others are recommended for deletion.

Other features the app offers include showing the latest photo count and storage available, dynamic events album for the home screen, and different screen mode option (light or dark). The app is available in the US on the App Store (free download) but requires a monthly (US$ 3 or ~ AU$ 4) or yearly (US$ 15 or ~AU$ 20) plan after the 3-day trial expires.

PS: Canon Photo Culling only supports JPG files or photos taken from the phone’s camera.
