Apple Releases iOS 14.8, iPadOS 14.8 and macOS 11.6 Big Sur

Apple Release watchOS 7.5, macOS Big Sur 11.4, HomePod 14.6 and tvOS 14.6

Alongside iOS 14.6 (iPhone) and iPadOS 14.6 (iPad), Apple also released the latest software updates for its other platforms. The company has made the watchOS 7.5 (Apple Watch), macOS Big Sur 11.4 (Macbook), HomePod 14.6 (HomePod speakers) and tvOS 14.6 (Apple TV) available to the public. It is advisable to back up these devices before attempting to install the updates.

watchOS 7.5

The latest Apple Watch software update delivers bug fixes, improvements and new features including Apple Podcasts subscriptions, Apple Card Family, and support for the ECG app (Apple Watch Series 4 or later) as well as irregular heart rhythm notifications in more countries (Malaysia and Peru). To install the update, navigate to Settings app on the Apple Watch and select Software Update > Download and Install. The update can also be accessed via the Watch app on iPhone.

macOS Big Sur 11.4

The latest macOS Big Sur update brings both subscriptions and channels options to the updated Apple Podcasts app as well as various bug and security fixes including that to correct websites not opening properly when the Mac wakes from sleep and 16-inch MacBook becoming unresponsive when playing Civilization VI. To install the update, simply navigate to System Preferences and click on Software Update.

HomePod 14.6 and tvOS 14.6

Finally, the latest software updates for Apple’s smart speakers and set-top box are also available. Both updates do not bring any major updates except bug fixes and improvements whilst also preparing Apple TV and HomePod speaker models to support June’s upcoming Apple Music features: Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos and Lossless Audio.

  • tvOS 14.6 is available through the Setting app on Apple TV. Simply navigate to System > Software update > Download and Install. By default, eligible Apple TV models should get new updates automatically.
  • Manual updates for the HomePod and HomePod mini are available through the Home app on the iPhone, iPad, iPod touch or Mac. Open the app and select Settings > Software Updates > Download and Install. By default, the HomePod and HomePod mini should get the updates automatically.
