The Apple Watch Ultra is the third new addition to the Apple Watch family. It is designed with extreme conditions in mind, making it suitable for adventure and outdoor activities. It sports a large 49mm watch display with aerospace-grade titanium casing and flat sapphire front crystal which wraps around the edge. The Retina display, which can show up to 6 metrics at once, emits up to 2000nits of brightness – 2x the brightness of any existing Apple Watch yet.

The Digital crown has a larger diameter and there is a new Orange-coloured Action button which can be customized to activate different features including Backtrack and Workouts. It is fitted with 3x built-in microphones which combines with adaptive beamforming algorithm and advanced wind noise-reduction algorithms for ultra-clear audio (and phone calls) during any conditions.

Apple Watch Ultra offers three watch bands aimed at different user experience – Trail Loop band (endurance athletes and runners), Alpine Loop band (explorers) and Ocean Band (extreme water sports and recreational diving). With dual-frequency GPS (L1 + L5), it offers precise distance, pace, and route data for athletes and the battery life lasts up to 36 hours on a long-course triathlon, i.e., a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike ride, and full marathon at 26.2 miles. With Low Power Mode and additional low-power setting, the watch can last up to 60 hours of usage.

Athletes can take advantage of watchOS 9 features such as Heart Rate Zones, Custom Workouts and, Race Route while explorers can use the redesigned Compass app delivers features such as Backtrack, and Compass Waypoint. It is also certified to WR100 and EN13319 to be used for underwater adventures. It has the same temperature-sensing capability, heart rate monitoring, Blood oxygen apps, Crash Detection, and others as the Watch Series 8 and Watch SE (2nd-Gen).
