Apple Watch Series 8 Debuts With Temperature Sensor, Crash Detection

Apple has taken the wraps off the Apple Watch Series 8 at its ‘Far Out’ September 2022, as expected. The smartwatch retains the design of the Series 7 and delivers features such as the new Temperture sensor, Always-On Retina display, strong crack-resistant front crystal, all-day 18-hour battery life, and the Crash Detection feature uses new sensors and advanced algorithm to automatically notifies emergency services and contacts when the user is in a severe car crash.

The new Temperature sensor focuses majorly on women’s health as it provides retrospective ovulation estimates and improved period predictions for menstrating users. The feature is bias free as its unique two-sensor design (one closer the skin and the other under the display) prevents interference from user’s body body and that of the environment. Another feature is the Nighttime wrist temperature which detects the overall body temperature by regularly measuring changes in wrist temperture druing sleep. All these data and more can be pulled from the health app.

The Series 8 has a new low power mode that provides up to 36 hours of usage on a single charge by providing access to basic such as activity tracking and fall detection. Low power mode on Apple Watch disables features such as always-on display and is available on Series 4 and above. Other notable features include international roaming (USA and Canada from launch), AFib History, Compass app, Workout app, Sleep tracking, and Medications experience (Apple Watch & iPhone).

As expected, Apple Watch Series 8 (41mm and 45mm sizes) is powered by watchOS 9 which delivers a new Medications app, sleep stages, enhanced Workout app and customisable watch faces such as Lunar and Metropolitan. It is open for pre-order today and available from September 16 in Midnight, Starlight, Silver, and Product(Red). There are also fancy stainless steel finishes, New Nike Bands (& new Nike sport look) and new Hermes Watch Band.
