Apple Unveil Apple Watch Black Unity Collection, Others For Black History Month

Apple has announced a flurry of contents, products and services including the Apple Watch Black Unity Collection, dedicated to celebrating Black History Month in February. The collection will be available from Apple and Target (online and in-store), starting February 1, in the US and 38 other countries and regions. Apple Watch Black Unity Collection

Designed to celebrate Black Culture and History, the collection includes the limited-edition Apple Watch Series 6 Black Unity, Black Unity Sport Band, and a Unity watch face (arrived as part of the watchOS 7.3 update). The band incorporates colours of the Pan-African flag (Black, Green and Red) while the limited-edition Apple Watch Series 6 will have black unity engraved into the back crystal. Apple Watch Series 6 Black Unity is priced at US$ 399 for the GPS model and US$ 499 for the GPS + Cellular model. The Black Unity Sport Band starts at US$ 49.

Other contents across Apple services for Black History Month include:

  • App Store: App Store Black History Month Hub will highlight Black-owned businesses, developers, entertainment and gaming apps, and social justice apps. The App Store will also feature stories with Black developers.
  • Apple Music: Apple Music will highlight curated playlists, original videos and more from prominent Black influencers including John Legend, Jaden Smith, and Naomi Campbell.
  • Apple Map: Customers will enjoy curated Apple Map Guides in collaboration with a New-York-based Black-owned business, EatOkra.
  • Apple TV: The theme for the month on Apple TV app is to showcase the multidimensionality of the Black family and its representation onscreen (film and TV shows) through “Essential Stories.
  • Apple News: Users will enjoy a wide range of topic groups including a special Apple News+ spotlight collection for audio articles celebrating the experience of Black people and Racial Justice Spotlight, which covers various articles on anti-racism, mental health and more.
  • Apple Books: A new collection on Apple Books will put the spotlight on great books and audiobooks by Black authors and narrators across a variety of genres for readers.
  • Apple Podcasts: Listeners will be a collection of shows from influential Black voices such as Michelle Obama and Joe Budden; shows from creators and an extended promotion of VPM’s “Seizing Freedom” show, which documents the road to freedom after 400 years of slavery.
  • Apple Fitness+: Subscribers will enjoy themed workouts from Black artists across all workout types and trainers will pay tribute to the month using individual songs. The ‘Time to Walk’ feature will also celebrate Black History Month by featuring the author Ibram X. Kendi on the month’s first episode to discuss racial justice and resiliency.
