As the world awaits the potential arrival of a new AirPods, we look at the Apple W1 and Apple H1, that have powered the very successful AirPods wireless earbuds line. The W1 powers the original AirPods as well as Beats wireless products such as the BeatsX, Powerbeats3 and Solo3 Wireless while the AirPods (2nd-gen), AirPods Pro and AirPods Max are powered by the H1. Other H1-powered devices include the Powerbeats Pro, Beats Solo Pro, and 2020 Powerbeats.

Both the H1 and W1 have Bluetooth connectivity, which means they can be used as headphones for any Bluetooth-enabled device including Android devices and Windows laptops; however, only Apple devices enjoy features such as Fast Pairing and Auto Switching to devices with the same Apple ID. They also feature built-in sensors such as accelerometer and optical sensors to determine when the AirPods are in use, when to connect and disconnect.
The Apple H1 has all the capabilities of the W1, however, it delivers up to 50% longer talk time on the same Lithium-ion batteries available on the first generation AirPods (W1), faster device connection time and ‘Hey Siri’ can now be activated with both double-tapping and voice activation. Apple has discontinued sales of the original AirPods, however, it can be found on third party platforms such as Kogan.com.
