Apple Unveil New 13-inch Macbook Pro and Mac Mini with M1 Chip

Alongside the new Macbook Air powered by the M1 Chip, Apple also unveiled new 13-inch Macbook Pro and Mac Mini with the same processor. The 5nm manufactured Apple M1 SoC packs an eight-core CPU and eight-core GPU, and combines with the macOS Big Sur to bring a wider range of apps and features to Mac. Both the Macbook Pro and Mac Mini are open for pre-orders today and available starting November 17.

13-inch Macbook Pro with M1 Chip

The new 13-inch Macbook Pro models released will replace the 8th-gen Intel Core i5 models. As with the new Macbook Air, Apple made it a point to state that the new M1-powered Macbook Pro is 2.8x faster in performance, up to 5x better and smoother graphics performance and up to 11x faster in machine learning (ML) workloads. It delivers up to 2x the battery life of previous generation Macbooks and stated to be 3x faster than the best-selling Windows laptop within its range.

The new Macbook comes with the same 13.3-inch backlit Retina display and Magic keyboard with touch bar, 2x thunderbolt ports with USB 4 support, Wi-Fi 6, and Bluetooth 5.0. In Australia, it is available starting at the same price at AU$ 1,999 inc. GST (US$ 1,299) and A$1,849 inc. GST (US$ 1,199) for education.

Mac Mini with M1 Chip

With the Apple M1 chip on-board, the Mac Mini delivers 3x faster performance, up to 6x increase in graphics performance and up to 15x faster machine learning (ML) workloads when compared to previous generation Mac Mini. According to Apple, it also offers 5x faster performance than most best-selling Windows desktop in its price range.

The Apple Mac Mini with M1 chip comes in up to 8GB of RAM (configurable up to 16GB), up to 2T SSD, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.0, gigabit ethernet, 2x Thunderbolt ports with USB-4 support, 2x USB-A ports, HDMI 2.0 connector, 3.5mm headphone jack, and supports up to two displays including 6K external display. The base model is available in Australia for AU$ 1,099 inc. GST (US$ 699), which translates to A$200 less than existing Intel Quad-Core Mac Mini models.
