Apple Unveil M1-Powered iPad Pro Models With 5G, Center Stage

Following last year’s launch of the Macbooks with the Apple-designed M1 chip, the company has pushed forward this year with the launch of the M1-powered iPad Pro. The current models, which are now the most powerful and advanced iPad Pro yet, are open for pre-order starting April 30 on Apple.com and will be available on sale starting the second half of May.

The M1 SoC on the iPad Pro delivers up to 50% faster CPU performance than the A12Z Bionic and the 8-Core GPU delivers 40% faster graphics performance. Other factors such as the next-gen 16-core Apple Neural Engine, advanced image signal processor (ISP), up to 16GB high-bandwidth memory, and up to 2TB of storage contributes to its blazing performance.

The 12.9-inch model features a new Liquid Retina XDR display with mini-LED design for up to 1000 nits of full-screen brightness, 1600 nits of peak brightness, and 1 million-to-1 contrast ratio while the smaller 11-inch iPad Pro has a Liquid Retina display with LED design for up to 600 nits max brightness. Both screen sizes have ProMotion technology, True Tone display, Wide color display (P3), and supports Apple Pencil (2nd generation).

The new M1-Powered iPad Pro models supports both 5G connectivity and eSIM, and Thunderbolt/USB 4 port for charging, DisplayPort, USB 4 (up to 40Gb/s), USB 3.1 Gen 2 (up to 10Gb/s) and Thunderbolt 3 (up to 40Gb/s). The rear camera system is made-up of a dual pro camera system with 12MP (f/1.8) wide and 10MP (f/2.4, 125° FOV) ultra-wide cameras.

The front 12MP TrueDepth camera system has a new feature called Center Stage, which uses AI to keep users centered in frame during video calls. Additional features on the new iPad Pro models include support for Smart HDR 3, Magic Keyboard and the impending release of iPadOS 14.5 brings additions like new emojis, support for gaming controllers and more.

The 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro are available in 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB storage configurations as well as Silver and Space Gray finishes. Pricing starts at US$ 799 (Wi-Fi) and and US$ 999 (Wi-Fi + Cellular) for the 11-inch iPad Pro model and US$ 1,099 (Wi-Fi) and US$ 1,299 (Wi-Fi + Cellular) for the 12.9-inch model. The 2nd-gen Apple Pencil is available for US$ 129.
