Apple Unveil iPad Air 5 with M1 Chip, Ultra-Fast 5G

Apple has refreshed its iPad roster with the new iPad Air 5 at its Spring ‘Peek Performance’ event. The company has ditched the A-Series chip powering the iPhone for the more powerful and ground-breaking M-series chip powering the Mac laptops and desktop. This results in a giant leap in performance, ultra-fast and smooth 5G connectivity as well as an all-day battery life.

The Apple M1 chip powering the iPad Air 5 features an 8-core CPU (4x high-performance cores + 4x high efficiency cores) with 16 billion transistors, 6-core GPU, and 16-core Neural Engine. The latest iPad delivers up to 60% increase in performance and up to 2x graphics performance when compared to the previous iPad Air powered by the Apple A14 Bionic (iPhone 12 models).

The new iPad packs a 10.9-inch Liquid Retina display with P3 wide color gamut and an anti-reflective screen coating; landscape stereo speakers, and Touch ID (top button). It features a 12MP wide camera at the back and new ultra-wide 12MP front camera with Center Stage, a feature now available across all iPad models. It supports both Wi-Fi 6 and 5G connectivity and features a USB-C port which is 2x faster than previous generation (up to 10Gbps data transfer speed).

The port is compatible with various USB-C accessories including external storage, displays and more, and tablet itself is compatible with the Magic Keyboard and Smart keyboard Folio. The new iPad, in 64GB and 256GB storage configurations, comes pre-loaded with iPadOS 15, supports Apple Pencil (2nd-gen), and arrives in Blue, Pink, Purple, Space Gray and Starlight colours.

Starting at US$ 599/AU$ 929 for the Wi-Fi only models and US$ 749/AU$ 1,159 for the Wi-Fi and Cellular models, the iPad Air 5 is available to order from March 11 and available from March 18.
