Apple TV 4K (2022) Debuts with A15 Bionic, USB-C

Apple has refreshed its Apple TV line-up with a faster processor, more storage and better connectivity. Apple TV 4K (2022) is powered by the A15 Bionic – the chip powering last year’s iPhone 13/13 Pro series and this year’s iPhone 14/14 Plus smartphones – an obvious upgrade over the A12 Bionic on the previous model. Apple says the CPU and GPU performance in the new model has increased by up to 50-percent and up to 30-percent respectively.

Alongisde Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision, the streaming box now supports HDR10+ and the Siri Remote now includes USB-C charging instead of the company’s proprietary Lightning connector. It is available in two models: a Wi-Fi only model with 64GB storage (US$ 129/ AU$ 219) and Wi-Fi + Ethernet model (US$ 149/AU$ 249) with 128GB storage, Gigabit Ethernet support and Thread mesh networking protocol to connect compatible smart home accessories and connected devices.

Apple TV 4K (2022) integrates seamlessly with other Apple products and services whilst also serving as a smart home hub. Either model run tvOS 16, which is set to receive updates such as Siri voice control on Apple TV, and iCloud Shared Photo Library on Apple TV. It is open for pre-order today with availablity scheduled for November 4-5 in over 30 countries and regions including Australia. The company has also discontinued the  Apple TV HD released in 2015.
