Apple Release macOS 12.1 with SharePlay, MagSafe Charging Fix

Apple has officially released macOS 12.1, the first major update to macOS monterey since its release in October. The update finally delivers support for SharePlay on FaceTime, a feature which is already available on iPhones and iPads via iOS 15.1/iPadOS 15.1. To install the update, navigate to System Preferences in the Apple Menu, click on Software Update, and click on the Install button.

Similar to iOS 15.2 and iPadOS 15.2, macOS 12.1 also delivers the Siri-based Apple Music Voice Plan, child safety measures in Messages, redesigned memories in Photos, new Store tab in the TV app, and the new Digital Legacy feature for Apple ID, which gives up to five people control over one’s data in the event of one’s demise. One major exclusion is Universal Control, which Apple confirms has been moved to Spring 2022.

There are also a variety of bug fixes and improvements including the fix for unresponsive clicks and or taps on TrackPad, and MagSafe charging issue on M1 Pro and M1 Max powered Macs. Apple also released macOS Big Sur 11.6.2 and macOS Catalina with important security updates and patches. Before getting any of these updates, it is advisable to first backup the Mac with Time Machine.
