Apple Previews macOS Sonoma

Apple previewed macOS Sonoma, the next major version of the macOS for its computers. The update, which is expected *-to arrive in the fall of 2023, shares several features with iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 such as the improved private browsing experience in Safari, activating Siri by saying only ‘Siri’, and updates to the Messages app.

macOS Sonoma will deliver Interactive Widgets (just like in iPadOS 17) directly from the desktop and the widget gallery is now accessible from a different location. It also delivers new screensavers including a new selection that show slow-motion videos of beautiful locations; and the Screen Sharing app will receive a new high-performance mode.

Gaming on Mac will also see major improvements as more developers are bringing new titles to Mac (Metal 3) and a new ‘Game Mode’ for an optimised experience. Titles such as DEATH STRANDING DIRECTOR’S CUT, World of Warcraft: Dragonflight, HUMANKIND, Resident Evil Village: Winters’ Expansion and Dragonheir: Silent Gods are available. Game Mode on Mac offers smoother and consistent frame rates; and reduces both audio latency and input latency.

With Presenter Overlay, Reactions, and Screen Sharing; Video conferencing will get a significant boost. Users will be able to display themselves (small and large overlay) along with the content that is being shared. They will also be able to add different Reactions by a simple hand gesture.
