Apple Unveil All-New Mac Studio and Studio Display

Leveraging the power of the new M1 Ultra and existing M1 Max, the Mac Studio is the latest entrant to the Mac roster of personal computers. It comes in a compact body build (9.5 x 19.7 x 19.7 cm) and can be configured with either of the aforementioned Apple Silicon. It was announced in tandem with the Studio Display, which offers a 27.5-inch 5K retina display, 12MP (f/2.4, 122° FOV) ultra-wide camera with Center Stage and six-speaker sound system (Hi-Fi) with Spatial Audio tech.

Pricing starts at US$ 1999 (AU$ 3,099) for the Mac Studio and US$ 1599 (AU$ 2,499) for the Studio Display. They are both available for pre-orders this Friday, March 11, with availability scheduled for the following Friday, March 18.

The Apple Mac Studio is designed for creatives looking for a device that can reach an unprecedented level of CPU and GPU performance. To keep the temperature down, it is fitted with an innovative thermal design made up of strategically placed double-sided blowers and over 4,000 perforations on the back and bottom to allow air flow through the internal components.

The M1 Ultra model can be configured with up to 128GB of unified memory while the M1 Max model goes up to 64GB. The former can playback 18 streams of 8K ProRes video and supports up to four Pro Display XDRs, plus a 4K TV. Both models can be configured with up to 8TB of SSD storage. The rest of the specs include 4x Thunderbolt 4 ports, 2x USB-A ports, HDMI ports, Bluetooth 5.0, Wi-Fi 6, 10Gb Ethernet port, and pro audio jack.

There is also a SD card slot and 2x USB-C ports, which supports 10 Gbps USB 3 on the M1 Max and 40 Gbps Thunderbolt 4 on the M1 Ultra.

Apple Studio Display

The Studio Display fits in a 27-inch 5K Retina display with 600 nits brightness, slim aluminium design (silver colour only), and built-in stand, which can tilt the display up to 30°. There are two other stand options (tilt- and height-adjustable stand and VESA mount adapter) to choose from to meet different needs. The rest of the features include Apple A13 Bionic, three-microphone array, 1x upstream Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) port, and 3x downstream USB-C ports.
