Apple Unveil Mac Pro with M2 Ultra; Mac Studio with M2 Max, M2 Ultra

Apple has successfully transitioned all its Mac products to Apple Silicon. The company announced the Mac Pro with the all-new M2 Ultra chip and the Mac Studio is available with both the M2 Max and M2 Ultra chip. As it was with the new MacBook Air with the M2 Chip, the company highlighted the benefits of Apple Silicon over Intel-based Mac and other products.

The Mac Pro is up to three times faster than the previous-generation Intel-based model while the Mac Studio with M2 Ultra is up to three times faster than the previous-generation with M1 Ultra. Both products are available to order today, with shipping for the latter scheduled for the 13th of June and the former will be available in the immediate future.

The high-end Mac Pro with M2 Ultra and the possibility of PCIe Expansion, can be configured up to 192GB of memory with 800GB/s of unified memory bandwidth and the chip’s media engine accommodates 22 streams of 8K ProRes video. It has seven PCle expansion slots, three USB-A ports, two HDMI ports, two 10Gb Ethernet ports, and eight Thunderbolt 4 ports, which supports up to six Pro Display XDRs. Others include Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, and headphone jack.

The Mac Studio with M2 Max and M2 Ultra will deliver a significant boost in performance. The M2 Max version has a 12-core CPU, up to 38-core GPU, and up to 96GB of unified memory with 400GB/s of memory bandwidth. While the M2 Ultra version raises the bar with a 24-core CPU, up to a 76-core GPU, and up to 192GB of memory with 800GB/s of unified memory bandwidth.

The Mac Studio has most of the connectivity options available on the Pro model. It supports up to six Pro Display XDRs whilst also featuring a microSD card slot, two USB-C ports, and a 10Gb Ethernet port.
