Apple Alongside the new MacBook Pro models, Apple also refreshed the Mac mini line with two new chip options – the Apple M2 and Apple M2 Pro. In terms of performance, the Mac mini with M2 is 5x faster than the bestselling Windows desktop while the Mac mini with M2 Pro is up to 14x faster than the fastest Intel-based option. Both options paired with Studio Display and Magic accessories deliver desktop level experience expected from macOS ventura.

Mac mini with M2 and M2 Pro

The M2-based Mac mini has an 8-core CPU with 10-core GPU while the M2 Pro-based model packs a 10/12-core CPU with 19-core GPU. The former can be combined with up to 24GB of unified memory and 100GB/s of bandwidth while the latter does up to 32GB of unified memory and up to 400GB/s of bandwidth. Both options use the next-gen Neural Engine to speed up ML tasks.

The M2 model can simultaneously play up to two streams of 8K ProRes 422 video at 30 fps, or up to 12 streams of 4K ProRes 422 video at 30 fps. While the M2 Pro model can play up to five streams of 8K ProRes 422 video at 30 fps, or up to 23 streams of 4K ProRes 422 video at 30 fps. There is Bluetooth 5.3 and Wi-Fi 6E5 for wireless connectivity.

The Mac mini with M2 model delivers 2x Thunderbolt 4 ports and supports up to two displays while the Mac mini with M2 Pro model delivers 4x Thunderbolt 4 ports and supports up to three displays as well as a single 8K display. Both models have 2x USB-A ports, 1x HDMI port, 1x Gigabit Ethernet port with a 10GB option, and upgraded headphone jack.

Pricing starts at US$ 599 (AU$ 999) and US$ 1,299 (AU$ 1,999) for the M2 and M2 Pro models respectively. The Mac mini is available to order in 27 countries (and regions) with deliveries expected to commence by January 24 in the US and February 3 in Australia and New Zealand.
