Apple iPod Discontinued After 20 Years

Twenty years on after its release, Apple has officially discontinued the iPod. The tech giant announced that the portable media player will be available from Apple store locations, authorised resellers and Apple.com while stock lasts. Apple Music is now the recommended player for music on-the-go and can be accessed across multiple Apple devices, from iPhone to the HomePod mini.

The iPod brand is believed to be the oldest that Apple has had to discontinue. The o-iginal iPod (5GB storage, scroll-wheel) was announced at an Apple press event in October 2001 and different versions came after in form of the iPod Mini, iPod Nano, iPod Shuffle, and iPod Touch. In 2019, the last ever iPod – the iPod Touch (7th-generation) made its debut with up to 256GB storage space alongside Apple A10 Fusion processor and immersive AR experience.
