iPhone 12S/13: Apple Could Launch Next iPhone with 1TB Storage, Lightning Port

As the rumour mill continues to be filled with hearsays regarding different upcoming Apple products, multiple sources are reporting that Apple is considering launching the next iPhone with 1TB storage. Currently, the most storage available on any iPhone is either 256GB (iPhone 12 or 12 mini) or 512GB (iPhone 12 Pro/Pro Max) but the iPad Pro offers up to 1TB of storage.

Storage is one of the key features to consider when buying an iPhone because it is non-expandable and can only be complimented with iCloud storage (5GB free space + paid subscription or Apple One Plan). While 512GB only came in 2018 with the iPhone XS, Apple is expected to head into the 1TB storage range with the next-gen iPhone (be it the iPhone 12S or iPhone 13).

This report has been supported by claims from insiders and supply chain sources, and the feature will be reserved for the iPhone Pro models. While there is no official confirmation, an iPhone with 1TB storage could become a reality in September 2021 where the company is expected to announce new iPhone 12 successors. Apple’s closest competitor, Samsung already offer high-end smartphones models with 1TB storage such as the Galaxy S20/S21 series.

The iPhone 12S/13 is also expected to have a 120Hz refresh rate on the displays, punch-hole notch for the selfie camera, stronger magnets for MagSafe accessories, and larger batteries in the Pro models. Other rumours suggest Always-On display, Touch-ID, and there are strong indications that Apple is also not considering ditching the lightning port in favour of the USB-C port because the former offer more protection against water than the latter (water resistance).
