Report: Apple Working on HomePod Speakers with Screen and Cameras

Following the discontinuation of the original HomePod and Apple subsequently shifting focus to the HomePod Mini, the tech giant is believed to be working on new HomePod speakers with screen and cameras. The upcoming smart speaker is reportedly equipped with a built-in touchscreen display and cameras for facetime and other camera-centric features.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that Apple has been working on new HomePod speakers with screen and cameras. Considering that the company’s speakers are bundled under the HomePod brand, it is safe to say that newer models could have a smart display to showcase media, digital assistants, video calling, information, and control other smart home products.

While the source noted that the products are nowhere near launch, the company would be going against Google (Nest Hub/ Hub Max), Facebook (Portal), and Amazon (Echo Show), if it ever decides to release upcoming HomePod speakers with screens and cameras. These companies equipped their products with sizeable touchscreen displays, respective in-house voice assistants, media functions and cameras for video calling. In similar news, Gurman also stated Apple had plans to release updated HomePod in 2022 before the product was discontinued.
