Apple CEO, Tim Cook made the revelation about this recent milestone during earnings call to investors. He reported that there are one billion active iPhones in use (an increase of 100 million from 2019) and there are 630 million paying customers across the company’s subscription services, which includes Apple Music, Apple Arcade, iCloud, Fitness+, News+ and TV+.

The announcement came during an enormous quarter (Q1 2021 earnings), which Apple’s revenue rose by 21% to US$ 111.4 billion and earnings per share rose to $1.68 from $1.25. The company’s revenue from iPhones rose by 17% to US$ 65 billion in revenue largely due to the strong performance of the new iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max. Out of the reported figure, China accounted for US$ 21.32 Billion in sales, up 57% from the previous year.

This very is impressive considering that the new 5G iPhones went on sale later than the usual and Apple closed most of its retail outlets due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The company also reported strong sales for the iPads (US $8.44 billion), Mac (US$ 8.68 billion) whilst the wearables Services section which also includes the new Apple One subscription and App store earned $15.76 billion in revenue. The wearables and accessories section crossed US$ 12.97 billion in revenue.
