Apple Health app Gains New Health Sharing, Trend Analysis, Walking Steadiness

Alongside the forthcoming major software updates coming to iPhone (iOS 15) and Apple Watch (watchOS 8), Apple also previewed the changes coming to the Health app on these devices. The Apple Health app will improve on the innovative features and insight available to users together with new tools targeted at supporting loved ones.

Apple Health app will introduce a new ‘Sharing tab’ to allow users securely divulge their health data with a significant other, loved ones and caregiver. Users have full control over the information being shared and receivers gets the shared data with trends and insights. To help the user keep track of goals, metrics, and insights, it will also add ‘Trend Analysis’ for 20 types of fitness and health-related data. Third-party devices connected to the app can also provide data for analysis.

The app will use the ‘Walking Steadiness’ to access and inform the user about fall risks and help with meeting stability goals. This feature uses built-in sensors on iPhone alongside real-world data from the Apple Heart and Movement Study. Users can also choose to notification regarding the status of their steadiness, and depending on the outcome, receive clinically validated exercises to that effect. Other features expected with iOS 15 and watchOS 8 include an enhanced labs experience to Health records on iPhone, respiratory rate tracking, mindfulness app, and option to store test results and medical records of immunisations.
