Report: Apple Books+ Could Be Available By Late 2022

Apple is said to be working on its own audiobooks subscription service, according to The Economist. While the source did not go into details, the service is expected to arrive later this year. The company already sells audiobooks with Apple Books, however, offering a subscription service (tentatively called Apple Books+) will put it directly in competition with Audible (owned by Amazon).

In the past couple of years Apple has made smaller media bets including Arcade, a subscription gaming package, News+, a publishing bundle, and Fitness+, which offers video aerobics classes. There is talk of an audiobooks service later this year.

In recent times, Apple’s focus has adjusted to offering services alongside hardware and software products, hence, it would not be entirely shocking to see it offer its own audiobook subscription. This is an avenue where Amazon currently excels with Audible and the latter currently has one of the largest audiobook libraries in the world. Subscription starts at AU$ 16.45 per month for Premium Plus and AU$ 27.45 per month for the Premium Plus 2 Credits option.

The Cupertino-based company, which is now valued at US$ 3 Trillion, offers a wide range of subscription-based services such as news (Apple News+), exercise and fitness (Apple Fitness+), Podcasts (Apple Podcasts), gaming (Apple Arcade), music streaming (Apple Music), TV (Apple TV+) and cloud storage (iCloud). It also has a subscription bundle which offers a combination of these services called, Apple One.
