Apple kicked off this year’s WWDC with a new of Mac-related news starting with the 15-inch MacBook Air powered the Apple M2 chip. It maintains its status as one of the world’s thinnest laptop body-build (11.5mm, 1.51kg), a fanless design, and features the Apple’s M2 family of chips – an 8-core CPU (4x performance cores and 4x efficiency cores), 10-core GPU, 100GB/s memory bandwidth, and a 16-core Neural Engine.

Performance-wise, it is up to 12x faster than the fastest Intel-based MacBook Air, up to 12x faster than the fastest Intel-based MacBook Air and twice as fast as the best-selling 15-inch PC laptop with a Core i7 processor. The new MacBook Air with M2 has a 15.3-inch Liquid Retina display with up to 500 nits of brightness, a new six-speaker sound system with Spatial audio, three-mic array, 1080p FaceTime HD camera, and provides up to 18 hours of battery life on a single charge.

It also has MagSafe charging, 3.5mm headphone jack, and 2x Thunderbolt ports for connecting external accessories including up to a 6K external display. As expected, it comes pre-loaded with macOS Ventura and arrives in four colour choices – Midnight, Silver, Space Grey, and Starlight. Pricing starts at US$1,299 /AU$ 2,199 for regular users and US$ 1,199/ AU$ 1,999 for Education users. Pre-orders are open today and shipping is expected from next week (13 June).
